I’m thrilled to introduce myself as a new voice on this blog. It was nice to meet some of you virtually! My name is Obinna Iwuji, and I will be supporting Andy for the next few months in a couple of ways but I’ll explain that later.
I’m currently spending the next 15 months (well 12 now), honing my craft as a Master’s student in design for Data visualisation at UAL (Yes, for those who didn’t know there are now whole university degrees for this amazing work that we do!). This next chapter in my journey is all about diving deeper into the art and science of turning complex data into meaningful, engaging visuals.
My background is a blend of advertising and analytics. I’ve spent the past 4 years working in media, content partnerships, and storytelling finding innovative ways to communicate ideas that matter. Whether it’s crafting narratives for brands or designing campaigns that drive real-world impact, my focus has always been on the intersection of clarity and creativity making messages stick. Prior to that, I worked in analytics in education policy.
Right now, I’m fully immersed in exploring the dynamic world of Dataviz. From mapping the growth of Black representation in politics to designing tools that bring Africa’s stories to the forefront, I’m passionate about using visualisation as a way to reclaim narratives and challenge stereotypes. It’s a big part of why I decided to pursue this Master’s it gives me the time and space to truly refine my skills and experiment with new approaches.
This brings me to my exciting collaboration with Andy. Over the coming months, I’ll be supporting him with various projects, from content creation to workshops to doing some of my own exploring and explaining and beyond. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business while bringing my perspective to the table.
I’m looking forward to sharing my journey with you, learning from this vibrant community, and hopefully inspiring others to see the transformative power of data visualisation. If you spot my name on the blog or hear about the work we’re doing together, don’t hesitate to reach out I’d love to connect.
Here’s to making data beautiful, meaningful, and impactful!
